Created the “Black Bear Restoration Plan” which was used by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to create the official Louisiana black bear recovery plan.

Developed the “Black Bear Management Handbook” as resource to private landowners interested in managing their property for bears. The handbook is currently on its 3rd edition with 16,000 copies distributed between1992 and 2003.

Recognized by national conservation awards, including The Wildlife Management Institute Touchstone Award, The Wildlife Society Group Conservation Award, Chevron Conservation Award, and Special Commendation from the USFWS.

Recognized by regional conservation awards from the Louisiana Wildlife Federation, Mississippi Wildlife Federation, Mississippi Nature Conservancy, Mississippi State University Foundation, and the Louisiana Environmental Health Association.

Helped create the multi-media CD “Bears and Birds of the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley” as a tool to teach children about local wildlife. Over 18,000 CD’s have been sent to educators at schools, nature centers, and zoos throughout the region.

Producing a handbook for teachers that includes lesson plans on math, science, and geography using the Louisiana black bear.

|
Developed the “Banking on Bears and Carbon: A Partnership for Landscape Conservation” as an introduction to the opportunities available for forest restoration through carbon banking in the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley.

|
Helped establish annual bear festivals in Rolling Fork, MS (since 2002) and Franklin, LA (since 2004) to promote bear awareness and help local economies.

Working with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Lower Mississippi Valley Joint Venture to create bear reforestation priority computer model for Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley.
|
|
|

|
Working with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Natural Resources Conservation Service to create a priority bear corridor where landowners receive bonus points in ranking their Wetland Reserve Program applications, and special project areas to ensure properties in critical locations have the best chances at acceptance.
