The BBCC actively solicits input from all parties that may be affected by a larger bear population to resolve potential conflicts. Without the support of the public, and the landowner in particular, the Louisiana black bear would likely remain a threatened subspecies on the Endangered Species List and never recover. The BBCC needs your support to continue its efforts to restore the Louisiana black bear through public education, research, and habitat restoration and management. You can contribute by becoming an Individual or Corporate member of the BBCC. The BBCC is a 501(c)3, non-profit corporation, incorporated in Louisiana.

LICENSE PLATE
All 4 of the states in the historic range of the Louisiana black bear (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas) have conservation license plates available for motorists to display their support of wildlife. When a motorist purchases a conservation license plate, a portion of that cost of the registration goes to help fund wildlife conservation projects (see links below). While all 4 states have these special plates, only Louisiana offers a license plate picturing the Louisiana black bear and dedicating funds specifically for bear restoration.

Louisiana motorists have the option of purchasing car and truck tags which feature the Louisiana black bear, while benefiting other native threatened and endangered species.

The Office of Motor Vehicles is issuing the unique tags by request through the Prestige Plate Unit. Additional money generated by license plate sales will go directly to the Natural Heritage Program of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries where it will be used strictly for the restoration of the Louisiana black bear in its historic range.

A two-year registration period for automobiles and vans costs a minimum of $26 in addition to the regular registration fee. Applicants can call the Prestige Plate Unit at (225)925-6264 with their current license plate number and the fee will be calculated. Credit will be given on the unused portion of the current plate.

Plates will be issued to automobiles/vans and pickups, and anyone can apply. Applicants must submit a photocopy of their vehicle registration certificate, a note stating application is for a Louisiana black bear license plate and the fee.

Applications are accepted at:

109 S. Foster Drive
Baton Rouge, Louisiana

They can also be mailed:
